The Most Exciting 2 Minutes All Year!

Happy May, Dear Readers.
I've had a very busy week, but I found time to relax and have loads of fun yesterday.
As you might know, it was Kentucky Derby Day! For as long as I can remember,
I've enjoyed watching the most exciting Horse Race of the Year on the first Saturday in May. Animal lover that I am, I love watching the magnificent champions giving their all. Yesterday had to be the MOST exciting and happy race yet. The finish was spectacular.

The festivities started on NBC at 3 pm, about 2 1/2 hours before the actual race started.
I always enjoy the pre-game show, to soak up the atmosphere and learn about each of the horses and the riders. I wish I had placed a bet at an OTB place, because I PICKED THE WINNER, SUPER SAVER! Once again, my Favorite Jockey,
Calvin Borel, came through on a muddy track close to the rail.
He has won 3 of the last 4 Derby Races! Last year was super exciting too.
Below is a video of the 2010 Derby race, in case you missed it, or if you
want to watch again. I'm sure the guy that bet $100,000 on Super Saver is
thrilled too, he walked away with $900,000 - not bad for a day's fun.

Calvin didn't disappoint, he is such a great rider, and genuine, nice man, you can tell from listening to him talk. He always thanks God and his family for his wins, he is a true ambassador for the sport.
"I was born to ride," Borel said. "This is what I wanted to do all my life. Every jock's dream is to win the Derby. But I never dreamed I'd win three Derbies."
In some ways, Borel's trip with Super Saver mirrored his ride from last year on Mine That Bird. He laid off the pace, wove through traffic, hugged the rail and flew home for the triumph. He had to get around Conveyance, then cut inside of Noble's Promise, and once he did that Super Saver was gone.
"Calvin is such an instinctive rider, I really didn't want to handcuff him with too many instructions," Pletcher said. "The only thing I told him was ‘Ride him like you own him, and don't forget about getting a lead change.' It was as simple as that."

Here is the AP video of his press conference after the exciting and very muddy race. Calvin predicts Super Saver will win the Triple Crown, how exciting!

I love the beauty of Churchill Downs, and the gorgeous roses that are draped over the
winning horse, Super Saver! He sure is Super! Here are some photo's from
The Winner's Circle, the happiest place in America, yesterday. The sun came out just
in time for the start of the 136th Kentucky Derby, and shone brightly on Super Saver, and
the other 19 horses.

The official site,, has loads of cool information for you to look at.
You can read about the riders, the horses, and whatever else that interests you.

If you want to see the Official Video from the Race, click here.

After all the sadness of the past week, with the wildlife being threatened in the huge Gulf
oil spill, it's nice to see some happy news for a change.

Now we go from the World's fastest horse to the World's Cutest....You must watch this adorable video of a precious Baby Horse, Einstein, the World's Smallest
Horse. He is so sweet, my teeth ache from watching. The way he runs around,
who knows, in a few years, he might take the Derby by storm.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and have lots of fun.
Take some inspiration from these fine horses, and run the best
race you can, knowing the finish line may hold some wonderful
surprises for you.

That was an amazing race Bunni, wow! Horses are beautiful animals with so much personality. That Baby Horsie was too adorable. I hope you are having an awesome weekend like I am here. I Just got the garden expanded and all ready for planting tomorrow. I am going all out this year with Burpless Cucumbers, Beefsteak/Cherry Tomato’s, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Green and Jalapeno Peppers, Red & Black Berries, Strawberries, and an Apple tree. I'm sure I forgot something but you get the Take Care Bunni and thanks for all you do.

Hi PFFV! I'm happy you enjoyed the videos. I love horses a whole bunch too. You can tell their personalties by the way they walk around. I also like how they each have a companion horse as they walk around.

You have the makings of a GREAT garden there. You must have lots of space. I don't have much space, just little plots around the back yard, and the front yard. I just plant flowers, The critters would eat the veggies, they try to eat the flowers too. I need to plant all my flowers. I am buying more perennials, it's easier than riding the bus to the garden store. I think next week I'll start up a bus pass and make my many trips to get some hanging baskets, and flats of flowers. This is the busy time of year, but very rewarding.

I'm glad you're having a fun weekend, and thanks for all YOU do to keep us informed and entertained. O:-)

Thanks for the great reporting. Super busy yesterday, went to a wedding and recital. I would have love to see the race and your descriptions make me feel like I was there. When I was a teenager I used to fancy myself a fine judge of horse flesh. Glad to hear you spotted the winner right away. I hope he takes the triple crown.

Bunni said...

Hi Teresa. It's so cool you used to be around horses alot, riding them and being in shows. I might have sat on one when I was little, but I don't recalling riding one. They are so great. My weekend is fun, the flowers will start being bought next week, hopefully it will be quiet around here so I can plant them.
Have a Great week. 8-)

Hi Angel: The bomb scare is so awful, all the news this week has been so AWFUL, it's nice
to forget about it for a while. I'm glad New York stayed safe. It's so scary lately, and the
liar in chief doesn't inspire confidence, AT ALL!

Hi Opus. Sounds like a lovely time. Your lil boy is so cute, his lst recital.
It's nice you like horses too. I wish I could visit some, or go to the Derby someday.
In two weeks, the next race is run, we'll cross our fingers! :*

Great vids and great reporting Bunni !

Hey, I'll send you $250,000 next year and you pick the winner for us.
(not really)

Good luck Einstein.

Bunni said...

Hi Kid! Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the story. It was fun watching yesterday, to be sure.
I'll be happy to pick a winner for us! I am lucky. Today my lotto ticket had 3 out of six numbers.
3 more and I"d have millions. Sadly, 3 numbers only pays $3.

Einstein is so cute, I hope he has a wonderful, happy life skipping through the grass. ;)

Einstein rocks, B. My kids got a kick out of that little tyke.

I'm not a derby watcher ... I have my own derby under my feet every friggin' day with Wild Thing #1 and #2, but I'm glad you enjoyed the race.

One sobering note: You do know that if you HAD bet on Super Saver he probably would have lost.

Hi Snarky! I'm glad your kids liked Einstein. He must be loved by all.
That kiddies like my post too is fun!

You are probably right, if I HAD bet it would have gone some other way.
Well, I can live vicariously and dream what I'd do with all the money!
I'm glad you had a fun weekend at the SB homestead. Just don't feed Thing # 1 & 2 hay.

That horse weighs less than I did when I was born. I've never missed the Kentucky derby, it's my favorite 2 minutes in sports.

Hi Bunni,
Love horses but not so much a race fan here. I have nothibg against racing just not my thing is all. It sounds as though you enjoyed it though and that is good enough for me 8-) How many Mint Juleps did you have?

I had heard of the tiny horse being born and thank you for including the video.

Woodsterman said...

I missed the race, so thanks so much for posting it, Bunni. I have to tell you though, Einstein steals the post. :-P :-P :-P

Bunni said...

Hi Freakster! I luv the horsie GIF, we think alike. I love watching the horse races, they are so exciting.
Have a fun week.

Bunni said...

Hi Christopher! I'm glad you liked the post...Einstein is the cutest horse ever. I didn't have
Mint Juleps, I don't like bourbon, I had a few beers! It was fun.
Have a super week.

Bunni said...

Hi Odie! I'm glad you were able to see the race.
I have to agree, Baby Einstein really is the cutest video ever.
He has the spirt of a Champion, running around at just a few days old. 8-)

My wife is a big fan of the races and use to go to the track in Hot Springs, Arkansas years ago. but I've never been able to get interested. You are right however about the Derby and I always watch it more to observe the people than the horses.

Maggie M. Thornton said...

The Derby horses are so magnificently beautiful. Sometimes they play some of the races back in slow motion and their muscles are a thing of wonder. I missed the Derby this year, so it was fun to read your report, Bunni.

So pleased to hear of your happy day at the Kentucky Derby Bunni :-D and, despite being pre-occupied by the upcoming ousting of our terrible Labour Government :-P , our hearts go out to all of those afected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico :'( .

Silly me, you saw it on the TV :-[ .

the malcontent said...

Hi Bunni, and thanks for your visit to "Tha malcontent" I saw this race and agree that it was a beauty. This jockey rode that horse perfectly.

Bunni said...

Hi Mal, I'm glad you enjoyed the race too!
Thanks for visiting too. :)

Bunni said...

Hello Banned, I'm so sad for the people and animals affected by the Oil Spill, and also the
dreadful flooding in Tenn., Nashville, etc. It's awful when we have to keep on reading about such
tragedies. It's nice to have some diversion, like the Derby.

I did see on TV, and I think I enjoyed it more that way, no rain, no crowds, etc. 8-)

Bunni said...

Hi Maggie, I love watching the horses in slow-mo too! They are just magnificent.
I'm happy you were able to watch the race here! There's lots of great pics, etc.
on the official website linked in the post.

Bunni said...

Matt, please tell me you were kidding! =-O

Bunni said...

Hi Ron, it is more fun to watch on TV, I think, unless you have money on the horses,
but I don't gamble on them, just pick my favs for fun. :*
