Rare Music ~ Christmas Songs!

In keeping with Christmas themes, this week, instead of the dreary, horrid political stuff, that it seems we can't change now, no matter what we do....I'm posting Rare Musical Video's.  First up
"The Christmas Song" a lovely live version by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
I got inspired to search this out, because I just brought home today the excellent CD
"The Best of Acoustic" Jethro Tull (2007).  Their musical stylings are just perfect this time of year, and this is a wonderful CD, search it out if you haven't heard already.

Hey, Santa, Pass Us That Bottle, Will You?

Now we have this very interesting selection, Ian with Full Orchestra
"German televison celebrates "Christmas with the president" (the german 'Bundespräsident') every year and 2006 they invited Ian Anderson from the group Jethro Tull to the beautiful monastary Maria Laach to play a few tunes with his band and the youth orchestra Rheinland-Pfalz. The show was broadcast on Christmas eve, 24.12.2006.
Ians set includes "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen".

Finally, here is a touching Mini-Movie to "The Christmas Song" that has us
think about the real reason for the Season. It is very creative, thoughtful and
relevant today more than ever! It's from the YouTube Channel of lindabs1816
aka PeaceLady.

God Bless Us, Everyone! Especially YOU, my Friend!

Wow Bunni, that was great; I discovered Jethro Tull as a youngling with their album 'Too Old To Rock & Roll, Too young to Die' and particularly the track "From A Dead Beat To An Old Greaser" thinking at the time how strange that must be; suppose I must be one of those now!

Ian has much greater respect in Europe than at home these days but I was surprised to see him performing to the German Establishment, hope tey paid him well.

Hello Kid! I hope you have a super Merry Christmas too, and all your family as well, and the adorable animals.

Hi Banned! I'm glad you liked the vids. I listened to the acoustic CD at work today and it's really great. Tull has always been a favorite of mine. I like the video's you posted in your comments too. Real Blasts from the past. Merry Christmas! I hope we all get paid well in the New Year.

Freaksmack! And a Merry Christmas Eve Eve to you and yours too.

Hi LabCat! Tull is one of the greats, aren't they? Glad you enjoyed. I linked to their website too. Ian seems to be still going strong.

Oh bra-VO! Ian Anderson - Anotber Christmas Song brings back such memories!

My generation is just barely but not entirely too young, typically opting for 80's fare. Thick as a Brick and Rock Island are two of my favorites but it's all good.

Hi Lemur King! I'm glad you enjoyed that! Tull is so great around the holidays, all the mandolins, jingelling bells, flutes! Really cheers a person up.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, and your adorable doggie too!

Jethro. He was to heavy for most rockers in the sixties. When Ian won the heavy metal awards in the battle with Metallica-the young-uns did not understand he was the first heavy artist.
Thanks for visiting.
Merry Christmas

Nice, B. I'm having Santa pass me a bottle after having watched the Senate vote this a.m. (Yeah, I know, I like to torture myself.)

At least we know to come here to get a bit of fresh air when everything else around us is rotten and stinking.

Merry Christmas, B.

Thanks Bunni for the trip down memory lane with Ian Anderson... In 1969 I saw Ian jamb for 2 1/2 hours with Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles... Hendrix would rip something off on the guitar followed by Miles on the drums and then Ian would blow them away on the flute... (yes I'm that old) Please let me take this time to wish you Bunni and all your readers a very Merry Christmas... Looking forward to a better 2010 and God Bless America...

Hey We Say! Indeed, Tull blazed a trail that metallica could only hope to follow. They did all right, but Ian & Co. can do it all. I think they did the S & M album, with the orchestra, to try and capitalize on that. I'm happy you enjoyed the selections. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Hi SB: Those bums will drive anyone to drink! I hope you're not too tired by tonight. Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad to be a breath of fresh air and fun in this dreary world. There is only so much a person can take with all the bad news these days. I could post more political stuff, but I figure people can read drudge and big gov't for that....sometimes we just want to forget and have a smile.
Merry Christmas to you and the Family!

I stop by your site for a breath of fresh air too! Your snark and great stuff, the photochops by jamie, and everything is most entertaining in a dreary world. Congrats on working with Pat Dollard now too! All the best.

Hi Born Again American: Wow, that is the greatest story! Too bad flip video wasn't invented then, that would have been the coolest vid on you tube.
Thanks for sharing your cool experience.

Thank you for your Kind Wishes! Merry Christmas to you and your family too! I'm sure my readers feel the same way. We must believe for a better 2010. I think it will be, name it and claim it. Happy New Year and all the best to you, friend.

Use it while you have it!
