Marvelous Movie Reviews

It's time for Bunni's Movie Review.  You are in for a trailer laden treat, I will review Sherlock Holmes, and Avatar in this post.  For those of you in England, where I've been informed that the theatres close for the Christmas Holidays, you will have something to look forward to.  I went to the Christmas Day opening in Chicago, first show, of Sherlock Holmes.  I was surprised how packed the theatre was for a 10:15 am show!  I got a great seat and settled in to be transported to lovely London town at the turn of the Century.  I completely enjoyed this film by Guy Ritchie, it had his usual energy and great fight scenes, but not as frenetic as say, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.  The casting was brilliant, I loved the Villian, Lord Blackwood, played by Mark Strong. Jude Law and Robert Downey were the perfect pair of crime fighting pals, and Rachel McAdams was a feisty heroine.  The atmosphere was very evocative of the time and place.  You could feel the dampness of the rain washed cobblestone streets, the fog, and the hustle and bustle of the streets. The action and adventure and interesting plot were perfect for an escapist romp on a cold winter's day.  Below you can watch the trailer:
"In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

You can visit the Official Movie Site Here. Enjoy yourself, I'll see you in London.

The New York Times has a pretty decent Film Review, along with several cool links.
This Christmas weekend was the all time BIGGEST ever for movies. Deadline.com is reporting that it was a record setting time, with Avatar beating out Sherlock
Holmes. This confirms with my theory that in horrid times, people want to forget
their troubles and be entertained, I know I do.

Now on to AVATAR! I saw this 2 1/2 hour ground breaking film when it opened last
Friday. Spring for the 3-D glasses when you go see it, because you'll need
them to enjoy the full effect of the spectacular special effects.  I'm sure you've read lots of reviews and heard a lot about this movie, but all I can say is, don't get caught up in
the "politicizing" of it! I'm sure Cameron has his own liberal "greenie" propaganda.
If that's what you're looking for, you'll find it. However, I think it's a movie,
watch it, suspend belief, and appreciate it for what it is, an exciting trip into a new world with the most visually stunning effects I've ever seen. It was worth every penny of the 300 gajillion bucks and 10 years Cameron spend making it. I loved the forest world of the Navi, especially at night, where everything is glowing & beautiful.
I think you'll enjoy it too.
"In the future, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to the planet Pandora which is inhabited by the Navi. The Navi is a humanoid race with their own language and culture, but the people of Earth find themselves at odds with the Navi."

Here is the Avatar Official Movie Website.

You can see James Cameron talking about the process of creating
Avatar on Charlie Rose. I think Charlie Rose is the best interviewer today,
no matter who he is speaking with. This is from The Daily Beast Dec. 18, 2009.

I hope you enjoyed this little escape from the day to day troubles of the world.
Lord knows there is enough bad news these days to drown us, I am tossing out
a few straws we can clutch and hopefully forget all that for a while.

Now if you want a BIG LAUGH, you've got to hop over to this post by The Big Yin
over at his great blog, Freedom-2-Choose. I had never seen Aussie
Steve Hughes before, and I'm glad I found him...he's hilarious. Steve's not very
PC, and there is a "language alert"
but it wouldn't be very funny without all that, now would it? Nope!

So I take it the Downey Jr. quote before the release was a joke, because I certainly won't see this film if it's true: "We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It's bad-ass," Downey told Britain's News of the World. Added much-in-the-news Law: "Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They're both mean and complicated."

There was NO hint of gayness in it, at all! I don't know why they would both hint at that? Maybe to pander to the PC psycho libtard crowd? They both had girlfriends in the movie, and a dog even. So, don't worry, Snarky. The only "relationship" was crime fighting and running around London dodging bombs and such.

Thanks for the reviews Bunni. I may see Holmes before it's all said and done. Avatar, I could probably do without, especially if it tends to be preachy.

Hi Matt! Thanks for stopping by. You'll enjoy them both. Avatar is not preachy in an obvious way....just given the subject manner, people could infer it was, don't let that stop you.

I will have to make time for Sherlock Holmes in the theater, it would seem. I saw Avatar and enjoyed it, rolling my eyes briefly at the green theme, but still enjoying the heck out of it.

Thanks for the reviews, Bunni. We don't go to the movies very often and thought the Sherlock Holmes film would be a good one. It's good to hear that you enjoyed it.

Hi, Bunni,

Glad to hear that there isn't a hint of gayness in Sherlock Holmes, that was the only thing putting me off it.

Come to think of it, I can't see Guy Ritchie getting into that unless he was taking the mickey - and as for the News of the World - I think perhaps a couple of leading actors were up to some mischief!

I'm still not sure about Avatar from the trailers and the "making of" programme with James Cameron, so I'll probably wait until its on satellite telly next Christmas and see it then.

Hi Opus! I'm glad you enjoyed Avatar. You will also like Sherlock, I'm sure. Thanks for stopping by and your friendship.

Hello TC Lady! I like the movies here cause I go lst show and it's $6 and it's a really big stadium seat theatre with like 8 sep. ones. So, I can take the bus and it's not very far away, all things considered.
It gives me some fun and escape from my hellish life...hee hee...well, working life anyway.
Thanks for your nice comments.

Amusing Bunni said...

Hi Spider! You are safe whatever film you see....No "taking the Mickey" or anything else untowards...ha ha. Thanks for stopping by & your comment. I think if you see Avatar at home, it will loose some of the "hugeness" of the big screen experience. I don't like Cameron personally, he is full of himself and a big twat, but the guy does make a good movie, so I just put all the other stuff out of my mind. He's very rude and mean to fans too. I hate people who think they are better than the "little" people cause they have lots of cash...he's obviously a mean & unhappy jerk, but hey, he makes a mean movie.

I hope you are enjoying your holiday break from blogging! I miss your wonderful posts...can't wait to see what you have in store for 2010! Take Care.

Sherlock Holmes looks awesome!! I will definitely have to make time to see that in the theater. I think I do want to see Avatar, although I do have mixed feelings because of the propaganda I have heard thats in it. Thanks for the movie reviews, Bunni!

I want to see both of these movies, even though I don't really care for Robert Downey Jr., and I heard Avatar is the Dances with Wolves plot + $300 (did you say cajillion?) worth of special effects. But now I'm going to dig out Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels because you reminded me of it, and it's been awhile since I've seen it. Who needs sleep?

Hi Teresa! I'm glad you enjoyed the reviews.
I hope you are having a nice time back home in the final days of 2009. Take Care, Bunni

Freaksmack: Downey Jr. Isn't my fav actor either, although the best thing he was in, I think was Ironman. The trailers for IM 2 look pretty cool, Mickey Roarke will be a cool villian. Who needs sleep indeed.

Definitely want to see Sherlock. Since Downey has cleaned up his act and gotten into shape, he's looking kinda cute! ;-D

I'll keep your review in mind when I get to see it!!!!

Oooh, another great review (actually a twofer!). I agree that we want to escape and be entertained when things are hard, that's why YOU are such a wonderful God-send.

As a bit of an aside, I somehow ended up on a bio page of yours (not sure what happened, but I was glad I landed there). I almost spat coffee all over my keyboard reading this part:

If you have any of the bad qualities I wrote about above, please don't bother me. If you are a Liberal Retard, kool-aide guzzling, hopium smoking NUT who voted for Obama, please shoot yourself in the head, NOW....and don't bother me....I have enough aggravation in my life! Thank you! ~ The Amusing Bunni

GENIUS!

Hi Labcat. I'm happy you enjoyed the movie. Avatar was just gorgeous, esp. the nighttime scenes in their beautiful forest.

Hey Fly Over Guy, thanks for visiting....but speak for yourself...hee hee. I am an exception to your statement, as are my friends....my enemies and voters for obummer, that's a different story.

Amusing Bunni said...

Hi Angel! Happy New Year to you too! Your post today is just so sweet, and just what we need to forget the horrors of obummer's epic FAILURE of keeping us safe. God Bless.

Amusing Bunni said...

Hi B & G! You'll like the movie. Downey isn't 1/2 bad, but of course he can't hold a candle to our Hugh! Happy New Year, sweetie.

Hey RightKlik. Like Opie and LabCat said, it's not obvious propaganda. I think You'll Enjoy Avatar, so just see it. Most hollywood stuff is propaganda anyways....this not as bad as most, in my opinion.

Hi Fuzzy! Aren't you a TREASURE! Thanks for your kind words....I appreciate being a God Send, I think you are as well.

I see you stumbled upon the website link on my blogger "about me" section. I actually have a website I set up a bit ago, just practicing around. You've reminded me of it, and I should post more stuff on there. Well, the section you quoted and found most amusing just about sums up my views of life!
And, of course you thinking it's GENIUS proves YOU are a genius too! Thanks again, Fuzzy, you cheered me up! Happy New Year!
