You've Been Warned

Anyone thinking of going to the Art Institute this week while it is free admission through May 22nd - PLEASE think again!

I made the mistake of going today - I thought I'd check out the new Modern Wing, seeing as how Chicago Taxpayers have been fleeced how many billions of dollars and waited 10 years for its construction. I wish I would have just stayed home and used my vacation day to plant more flowers in my garden.

The crowds were horrible. And the hundreds of "security" guards who just stood around and looked bored didn't give any control as to seeing people went in one door to each individual gallery and out the other. And, why didn't they just have all the gallery doors propped open? They knew thousands of people with their huge strollers would be schlepping around. I used to love this City but lately the unwashed masses are annoying me on a grand scale. I really need to use my days off to stay in and try to get some peace and quiet.

I wish I had not bothered - free or not. And, if I would have paid a $18 or $16 admission fee, I would have been livid. My friend PJ was even more disgusted than I was. Some of the paintings that pass for art a dog could have painted if I dipped her paws in paint and set her on a big canvas. One sculpture looked like someone puked out their birthday cake!

The one cool thing was going up to the 3rd floor to get to the big steel bridge that goes over the street and takes you to Millenium Park - and out of there!

Please be warned if you go, get there VERY EARLY and be prepared for hoards of peasants walking into you and running you over with their strollers. Also bring lots of cash, because a tiny bottle of water is $3.00. Nice to know yet another project from da mayor shortshanks is a piece of crap. If we get the olympics here, I'm moving!

Thanks for the warning. Last time I went to the Art Institute it was a nightmare because they were filming a movie out in front. (I think it was Jennifer Aniston.) Plus I had to park in some underground garage that scared the crap out of me and my two boys. It's too bad the city has to ruin everything.

Hi Bunni,

Thanks for the early warning. I was going this week but now I will hold off and wait until I can get in without the long wait.

Someone had to go out there and find out what was really going on and once again you have saved your readers a precious commodity ... time!

Happy gardening!

Yep,same goes for the museums here in Atlanta, which are also filled gummit funded crap. Now,I might not know what art is,but being a country boy,I do know what crap is,having shoveled it once.

Hi Annmarie: Glad to help you out. We know when the city gets involved in anything, it's gonna suck. I know about those underground garages there...OMG they are like a horror movie.

I always tell my pals when we are going downtown to just take the brown line in, or the 147 bus down lake shore drive. Going into those scary garages are to be avoided at all costs.

Hi Anony:
I have a feeling who you are, Rev. H right? I can always tell by your sweet and smart comments.

I will venture out where others fear to tread and I'm glad I saved you that precious time. One can always make more money, but one can never be blessed with more time when your called away! Take Care and the Gardening will be going in full swing starting friday! Love ya, Bunni

Hey CS:
Thanks for stopping by.

You'd be right at home out here, it's a regular craptastic fest.

Things that pass for "art" could have been passed by a flatulent cow.

It's always sad to plan something that cool and be disappointed.
I'm in Ohio right now and I'll visit Chicago in 2 months. I'll pass the Art institute. Thanks for the warning

Hi Lazy King!

Maybe by the time you visit Chicago, the hoopla will have died down & it won't be too crowded.

You will be here when it's really HOT out, enjoy all the festivals

Oh my goodness, sorry for what was to be art was not art at all for you! Sometimes you wonder how this stuff gets past the radar. Blessings.

I love free, but hate crowds. The museum is fun when you get to wander around and take your time when you want to. Not at all fun if you feel like a herd of cattle. I've learned the hard way that new exhibits are not always worth it.

Hi Just be Real, LLnL, & Kandibug!
Thanks for stopping by and your insightful comments.

I am really starting to rethink the "free" stuff this city offers. Even if they let you in the door without hijacking your wallet - they try to get you a myriad of other ways! I think I"ll skip the free stuff for awhile.

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day! Peace, Bunni

Hi Critical Thinker!

Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by and linking me to your super informative Blog!

Your Comment: "Everybody needs a bunni buddy in the blogosphere. Bunni warns us not to believe all the socialist tripe that free art museums in Chi-town are enjoyable. It is just a ruse to get you to spend money to support the State. (She didn't say the last part, I...er...added that myself.)"

Well, you comment was just spot on, I could not have said it better myself!

Thanks again for the link and I'll be visiting your blog often!

A post suggestion: Chicago summer music festivals

Amusing Bunni said...

Hi Lazy King! Yes, Chicago is BEST in the summer...it makes the horribly cold, snowy winters bearable! The festival season is really starting up this weekend.

Thanks for your great suggestion, I will do a post about in the the very near future!

Love your contest too, BTW, Everyone should check it out.
